IMMERSION APPLICATIONS CLOSE TODAY – The Immersion Application process for the upcoming 2018-19 school year is now available. To apply, go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/XWK3BH7 – please be sure to answer each question carefully, misinformation could delay your entrance into the Immersion program and/or require you to reapply. If your student is already in immersion, you DO NOT need to reapply.
The Immersion selection process is based on volunteer hours, please be sure you have logged your hours in the Raptor system, links to the volunteer application and logging system are at the bottom of this newsletter.
SPIRIT WEEK, May 14-18 – The week to bust out your craziest outfits is upon us! The week of May 14-18, NDPA will celebrate our school spirit with the following dress-up days. Please remember that covering your body from shoulders to two inches above the knee and closed-toed, closed-heeled, flat shoes are required with all outfit selections.
- Monday: Crazy Hair Day – It’s time to do your ‘do! Temporary hair color is allowed if the color returns tomorrow and hair coloring happens at home. Please do not bring hair supplies to school to work on your hair here.
- Tuesday: Heroes vs. Villains Day – Dress up as your favorite super hero or villain or make up your own. Masks are a school safety issue; they cannot cover your face.
- Wednesday: Pajama Day – Show up to school in your comfy wear! Make sure your jammies fully cover you, and please, no slippers.
- Thursday: Dress Like a Teacher Day – You’ve watched us all year, now it’s time to try and BE us. Dress up as a favorite teacher or maybe just one with a great style you’d like to take on.
- Friday: Free Dress Day – Regular dollar dress day rules apply, but take a day to show your lion pride with a little individuality.
CHECK THE LOST & FOUND – Lost & found collection will be Friday, May 18, please be sure to check for missing items before that date!
7TH-9TH SPRING SEMI-FORMAL DANCE – Junior high kids, are you ready to dance your face off? Come join us for our last dance of the year, the Spring Dance, Friday, May 18, 7:00-9:00 PM. The dance is semi-formal, but you don’t need to purchase a new outfit. Dress it up to your comfort level and come celebrate the end of the year with us. Please make sure bodies are covered. Spaghetti straps and high heels are allowed for this event (but I recommend some flats, too, just in case!). As per our school policy, only CURRENT junior high students (grades 7, 8, 9) are allowed to attend. Can’t wait to see you there!
COME SEE OUR PROJECT – Join us on Friday, May 18th at 1:30 PM at the tennis courts, across the street at Ellison Park, for the unveiling of our mural “A Celebration of Diversity: Mapping the Journey Home.” We welcome parents, families, friends, students, and NDPA faculty and staff for a short program and the unveiling of the mural.
This collaborative mural project has been designed and painted by the students from Ms. Roundy’s 8th-9th grade painting class, Ms. Draney’s 9th grade geography class, and Ms. Winborg’s 4th grade class. Our mural will be hung along with two other murals, created by students from local high schools, celebrating diversity in our community. This mural project was brought about by a partnership between NDPA and Layton City Parks and Recreation.

TEACHER APPRECIATION – THANK YOU! Our teachers work really hard, on and off the clock, to prepare lessons, grade papers, and do so much more! We are grateful to them for their hard work and dedication to NDPA. We are also grateful to POET, who showed their appreciation for our teachers by providing them with fun treats and snacks all week, along with a fabulous luncheon on Friday!
