Lottery FAQ

Since the number of applicants exceeds the established ceiling, students are selected by lottery. When a student is chosen in accordance with the state approved processes, siblings of the applicant (within the same household) are also invited for admission and are placed on a sibling waiting list until openings are available. Siblings of admitted students are given preference over other applicants.

NDPA, on the same basis as other public schools, will not discriminate in its admission policies or practices.

All applications to NDPA are online applications. Individuals without Internet access are invited to contact the school to make arrangements to process an application on one of our media center computers.

There are multiple applicants waiting in the NDPA applicant lottery pool. Some grades experience a higher number of student applicants. There is no way to predict the lottery selection process, assess your chances, or predict when or if your student will be selected to attend NDPA. We do not create waiting lists. After each lottery spin the remaining names of all applicants not yet selected, remain in the “lottery pool hopper” for the remainder of the school year. You will be contacted by email if your student has been selected. NDPA may enroll up to 1,108 students in grades K-9.

We maintain an ongoing lottery process. All grade lotteries are held when a student drops from NDPA and an opening becomes available. Kindergarten lottery is held after all sibling preference openings have been filled. We anticipate additions in all grades, throughout the school year.

You will receive an email or phone call. If you go on vacation, please be sure someone is able to check your messages while you are away.

It is the time frame in which applicants have placed their student’s name into the lottery. This period of time allows them preference in the first lottery spin for that school year.
